Beijing: China’s Defense Minister Li Shangfu has met Pakistan Navy Chief on Monday. Li Shangfu said that in order to strengthen security in the region, there is an urgent need for the navies of the two neighbors to enhance their capabilities as well as expand mutual cooperation to new areas. The relations between the armies of China and Pakistan are very old. The navies and air forces of both countries carry out a bilateral exercise every year in each other’s territory. Experts are terming this statement of the Chinese Defense Minister as a big challenge for India.

China’s eye on the Arabian Sea
Pakistan’s access to the Arabian Sea is very important for China. If China has to strengthen its hold till the Strait of Malacca, then Pakistan can be its important partner. But China’s growing interests in the region have created a lot of concern for India. In the year 2017, China opened the first foreign military base in Djibouti located in the Indian Ocean. Since then, his antics have been increasing. Pakistan Navy Chief Amjad Khan Niazi is currently on a visit to China. During this, he met Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu.

Will the Chinese army go till Gwadar

Shangfu told Niazi that military ties between the two countries are an important part of bilateral ties. Shangfu has said that the two armies should expand to new areas of exchange. At the same time, emphasis should be laid on increasing cooperation to continuously enhance our ability to deal with all kinds of risks and challenges. Zhang Youxia, vice chairman of China’s Central Military Commission, said in April that cooperation with Pakistan’s military would deepen after Niazi’s visit. China has not yet said whether it had made any demands related to the presence of its military till the Chinese-aided Gwadar port in Pakistan.

China already present in Sri Lanka
The Pentagon had earlier identified Pakistan as a possible site for a future Chinese military base. In this, Gwadar was also seen as a possible place. If this happens, then the growing Chinese military alliance with Pakistan will give rise to India’s concerns. In the year 2022, India raised concerns over the presence of a Chinese spy ship at a strategic port in Sri Lanka. In 2014, India got angry with Sri Lanka when a Chinese submarine and a warship were allowed to stay in Colombo.
