China setting new dimensions in poverty alleviation

On 25 February 2021, Chinese President Xi Jinping had announced that with the equal efforts of all citizens, China achieved a complete victory in poverty alleviation in the year 2021. China lifted about 100 million people out of poverty in 8 years. All 823 poor counties and 1 lakh 28 thousand poor villages were freed from poverty. China achieved the poverty alleviation target in the new era as per the predetermined time and 10 years in advance the target set by the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda 2030.

It is evident from the experiences of China that the whole society should participate in reducing poverty according to the national objective situation. The Chinese government encouraged all people to eradicate poverty, saying that the government and all citizens make efforts together. Poverty alleviation in the country has always been accompanied by a reform policy, which has created better conditions for building infrastructure in poor areas, increasing investment, improving civic life, and increasing income.

Xi Jinping has always paid attention to this issue of improving the lives of poor farmers. On 3 November 2013, Xi Jinping presented the ideology of precise poverty alleviation for the first time during a visit to Xipatong Village, Huayuan County, Hunan Province. He said that from a practical point of view, different directions should be given according to the local situation during poor-help.
Xi Jinping has given speeches on poverty alleviation many times. He said that no one should be left behind on the path of poverty alleviation. We will not rest until the core problem of the ultimate family or individual life is resolved.

Precise poverty alleviation has seen immense change in Shipatong village. Under the systematic liberal policy, the business of rural tourism, peach, kiwi, embroidery, mountain spring water and Chinese medicine plantation etc. developed in Shipatong village. The annual per capita income has increased from 1,000 yuan in 2013 to 20,000 yuan at present. Shipatong village came out of the quagmire of poverty in the year 2016.

Accurate poverty alleviation experience is important not only for China but also for the whole world. To overcome the problem of poverty, China gave its knowledge and proposal to the world. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that China’s experience is very useful for other developing countries. For a long time, China actively participates in international cooperation on poverty alleviation. China has organized world forums many times, training and providing assistance to other developing countries.
