China has taken a big step on issues like terrorism and cyber security. China has announced that it will provide training to 5,000 soldiers from developing countries in the next five years. To boost its global security influence, China has unveiled plans to train 5,000 security personnel from developing countries over the next five years, reports the South China Morning Post. China’s new plan has been revealed in a paper on Beijing’s Global Security Initiative (GSI).

The report quoted the GSI paper as saying, “Beijing aims to improve governance capacity in non-traditional security through exchanges and cooperation to address security challenges in areas such as terrorism, cyber security, biosecurity and emerging technologies.” The paper further said that China would also encourage greater exchanges and cooperation between university-level military and police academies. to provide 5,000 training opportunities for professionals from other developing countries over the next five years to help do this.

The initiative is reportedly being seen as an alternative to the Western-dominated security order. It was first proposed by President Xi Jinping during the Boao Forum for Asia annual conference in April 2022. In recent years, China has increased its efforts to expand multilateral and bilateral security training programs to countries in the Middle East, Pacific Islands and Central Asia. Most recently, a Chinese balloon, which Beijing denies was a government spy vessel, spent a week flying over the United States and Canada until President Joe Biden ordered it shot down. The episode further strained relations between Washington and Beijing.
