China has objected to Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen’s stay in the US, saying it is closely monitoring the developments and will safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity with commitment.

China has once again warned Taiwan’s president about landing in the United States on her way to Central America, saying Taiwan is its territory and will use military force to take control of it if necessary. China has objected to Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen’s stay in the US, saying it is closely monitoring the developments and will safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity with commitment.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning reiterated on Thursday that China strongly objected to any talks between Tsai Ing Wei and US officials. China specifically warned that a meeting with US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on April 5 in Los Angeles would draw a strong reaction. Tsai’s visit is aimed at showing that Taiwan still has allies despite China’s military threat and efforts to isolate it diplomatically.

Diplomatic pressure on Taiwan has increased recently. Honduras has established diplomatic relations with China after breaking ties with Taiwan. Taiwan is now recognized by only 13 sovereign countries, including Vatican City. Tsai accused Beijing of using ‘dollar diplomacy’ to woo another Taiwanese ally. Sai arrived in New York on Wednesday and will be there till Thursday, but few details about the trip have been made public.
