Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping has underlined the growing strategic importance of bilateral relations with Pakistan and said he is ready to work with newly elected President Asif Ali Zardari. Geo News reported that the Chinese President congratulated the veteran Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader on securing a second term as President, saying, “(China) is committed to furthering cooperation (with Pakistan) in various fields.” “Ready to work with (President-elect) Zardari.”
He highlighted the growing importance of strategic relations between the two countries, recalling the bilateral support displayed by both countries on matters of mutual interest. Emphasizing the historic partnership and cooperation of the neighboring countries, he said, “Both countries have achieved meaningful results through the establishment of CPEC.” The statement of the Chinese President has come at a time when Mr. Zardari will take oath as the President at 4 pm today. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, chiefs of the three services and other dignitaries will be present at the ceremony.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faiz Isa will administer the oath of office to Mr Zardari. Mr Zardari secured the top post by securing 411 electoral votes against his rival Pakistan President-elect Kahreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC). SIC candidate Mahmood Khan Achakzai got 181 votes. Mr Zardari, who was elected to the presidency for the historic second time, came with the support of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and other allies.
