Three Election Commission of India (ECI) officials on Monday said they saw citizens peacefully exercising their franchise at several polling stations in Bangladesh.
These three officials of the Commission were observers for the parliamentary elections in Bangladesh. The Election Commission delegation included Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Dharmendra Sharma, Director General B Narayan and Principal Secretary Mohammad Omar.
“We visited several polling stations and observed the voting process,” the delegation said in a statement. We saw citizens of Bangladesh peacefully exercising their franchise at these polling stations.
The delegation traveled to Bangladesh as observers of the country’s 12th parliamentary elections. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina won the general elections for the fourth consecutive time.
Sporadic violence and the boycott of the elections by the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its allies made the path to victory easier for Hasina’s party Awami League.
