New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina on Sunday’s historic victory for the fourth consecutive time in the general elections and reiterated India’s commitment to further strengthen the ‘enduring and people-centric partnership’. A press statement issued in a letter sent on Monday by the Indian High Commission in Dhaka said: ‘Prime Minister Modi said that the historic and close relations between India and Bangladesh will continue to deepen in all areas of their irreconcilable partnership.’
PM Modi also reaffirmed that as a close friend and trusted development partner of Bangladesh, India will continue to support Bangladesh’s aspirations and development. The letter also said that PM Modi also wished the people of Bangladesh for their continued progress, peace and prosperity. Indian High Commissioner Prannoy Kumar Verma met Bangladesh Prime Minister Hasina and congratulated her on her re-election as head of state for the fourth consecutive term.
Mohammad Noorelahi Meena, deputy press secretary to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, told Indian media that ‘the envoys of India and Bangladesh extended good wishes on behalf of their respective countries and said their support for the new government would continue.’ The Indian High Commissioner on Monday spoke to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and conveyed India’s good wishes on her re-election and her party Awami League’s fourth consecutive victory.
According to a PMO spokesperson, the Indian envoy along with the ambassadors of Russia, China, Bhutan, Philippines, Singapore and Sri Lanka met the newly elected Prime Minister at his Ganobhavan residence and promised their countries’ continued support to Bangladesh. Hasina thanked diplomats from various countries and sought their support in her new government’s journey towards the development and prosperity of Bangladesh.
