Karachi. Pakistani authorities have started evacuating people from low-lying coastal areas in southern Sindh province to safer places in the wake of cyclonic storm Biparjoy. Heavy rains and strong winds are expected to strengthen the cyclonic storm further. All concerned officers have been ordered to be alert. This cyclone formed over the Arabian Sea turned into a very severe cyclonic storm on Sunday. The National Disaster Management Authority said that the cyclonic storm could affect the south and south-eastern parts of Sindh.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department said on Sunday that the cyclonic system is located 690 km south of Karachi. An official of the National Disaster Management Authority said authorities have evacuated people from low-lying coastal areas of Sindh to government schools and offices. The cyclonic storm is likely to make landfall in Pakistan’s KT Bandar and its adjoining areas. KT Bandar is the oldest port of Sindh.
