New York: A supporter of rival Donald Trump proposed marriage to Indian-American Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley during a rally in the US state of Hampshire. A Trump supporter interrupted 52-year-old Haley’s speech and asked, ‘Will you marry me?’ On this, along with him, the crowd present at the Artisan Hotel in Salem also started laughing. The two-time former governor of South Carolina has been married to William Michael Haley since 1996 and the couple have two children – daughter Rayna and son Nalin.
Haley quickly responded to the marriage proposal man by asking: ‘Will you vote for me?’ To this the person replied that he was voting for Trump. Haley said in a lighthearted tone, ‘Oh, get out of here!’
Conservative political commentator Benny Johnson shared this on X. The post has drawn some funny reactions from netizens. One user mentioned former GOP rival and fellow Indian American Vivek Ramaswamy. ‘She doesn’t even try to convince him to vote for her, Vivek says ‘let’s talk’.
Another user wrote, ‘Very funny! Nobody wants Nikki. We want Trump!’ Haley lost to Trump despite a strong performance in the New Hampshire primary and the endorsements of Republican Governor Chris Sununu and 2022 GOP Senate candidate Don Bolduc.
With an estimated 36 per cent of votes counted, the former president recorded 53.6 per cent support to Haley’s 45.3 per cent in the province’s crucial primary on Tuesday. However, the only female presidential candidate vowed to continue the fight against Trump, saying ‘the race is not over yet’.
