Quito (Uttam Hindu News): Violence Amidst the wave of coups and the worsening security situation, Ecuador has elected Daniel Noboa from the right-wing National Democratic Action coalition as its new president. Citing preliminary official results of Sunday’s presidential runoff, the National Electoral Council (CNE) said Noboa received 52.29 percent of the vote, while his rival Luisa Gonzalez received 47.71 percent, Xinhua news agency reported. The results were declared after 90.78 percent votes were counted.
On Sunday night, CNE president Diana Attament confirmed that the results were “irreversible” and declared Noboa the South American country’s new president. More than 10 million people voted amid tight security measures across the country. According to CNN report, Noboa, 35, has promised to create more work opportunities for the youth; There has also been talk of bringing in more foreign investment while using technology to fight crime. Speaking to reporters after the results late on Sunday night, Noboah thanked his wife, parents and God for giving him the opportunity to serve his country. Meanwhile, his opponent Gonzalez has conceded defeat.
