Additional Judge Humayun Dilawar of the District and Sessions Court of Islamabad also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on Imran Khan. The court said that he would be kept in jail for another six months for not paying the fine.

What did the court say in its verdict against Imran Khan?

Justice Humayun Dilawar said in his judgment, the allegations of false declaration of assets against the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have been proved. Following the court’s decision, the Islamabad Police, in cooperation with the Punjab Police, arrested 70-year-old Khan from his residence in Lahore.

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan had released a video message for the people and his supporters before his arrest. In which he made a special appeal to the people. He said, my Pakistanis, by the time this message reaches you, these people would have arrested me. I’ll be in jail But it is a request to all of you that you will not sit quietly inside your homes. You go out of the house and protest against it. Imran Khan further said in his video message, sitting quietly is the work of cowards. He further said, he is not fighting for himself, but is fighting for Pakistanis. He further said, this is another step towards fulfilling the London plan but I want my party workers to remain peaceful, determined and strong. We do not bow before anyone but Allah.

What is the reaction of Imran Khan’s party after his arrest?

In a brief post on Twitter, Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said, Imran Khan is being taken to Kot Lakhpat Jail. Special Assistant to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif Ataullah Tarar has confirmed Khan’s arrest. He told reporters, it will be decided later whether he will be kept in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail or somewhere else.

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) filed a complaint against Imran Khan

The Toshakhana case was filed last year on a complaint by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The ECP had earlier disqualified Khan in the same case. The decision came a day after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) set aside a sessions court’s decision to uphold the maintainability of the Toshakhana case for criminal proceedings against Khan. On October 21, 2022, the ECP disqualified Khan from holding public office on charges of making false statements and misrepresenting information.

What is Toshakhana case, in which Imran Khan was arrested

The Toshakhana is a department under the Cabinet Division, where gifts given by heads of other governments and foreign dignitaries to rulers and government officials are kept. If the ruler or the government official wants to keep that gift privately, then he has to pay an amount equal to the value of that gift. Which will be decided through auction. Whatever amount is received in the auction, it is deposited in the national treasury. Now it comes to Imran Khan and Toshakhana case. In fact, after becoming the Prime Minister of Pakistan in 2018, Imran Khan received 58 gifts worth about Rs 14 crore during his official visits. There is an allegation against Imran Khan that he bought those expensive gifts from Toshakhana at a cheap price and sold them at an expensive price in the market. In which a precious watch was also included. According to media reports, Imran Khan had bought expensive gifts from Toshakhana for about Rs 2.15 crore and earned a profit of Rs 5.8 crore by selling them in the market.

After Imran Khan was removed from power, the ruling government raised the Toshakhana case in the National Assembly and demanded action against Imran Khan.
