Former Chinese PM Li Keqiang dies of heart attack, breathed his last at the age of 68

Beijing (Uttam Hindu News): Former Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, once known as the second most powerful figure in the ruling Chinese Communist Party after President Xi Jinping, died in Shanghai on Friday. He was 68 years old. Li Shanghai suffered a sudden heart attack on Thursday, Xinhua news agency reported.
“He died at 12.10 am on Friday,” it said. According to the BBC report, Lee was known as one of the veteran political figures. He served as Prime Minister for a decade from 2013 to March this year.
During this time, he guided the Asian giant through a challenging period of escalating technology and trade disputes with the US, rising government debt and unemployment as well as the COVID-19 pandemic. In his final year in power, Li warned of challenges to China’s economy amid widespread COVID-19 lockdowns.
He supported efforts to boost employment and maintain economic stability. News of Li’s death has sparked widespread mourning on Chinese social media. He stepped down at the age of 67, one year short of the unofficial retirement age for senior Chinese Communist Party leaders. Li Qiang, a former Shanghai party chief and Xi loyalist, succeeded him as prime minister.
