Google is ready to make a strong claim in the field of UPI, equipped with many features “Soundpod”

Since demonetisation, the country has moved rapidly towards a cashless economy and the trend of UPI payment has also increased. Many companies have also presented their claim in UPI. With time, there are changes and innovations in the methods of payments. Google is in the news because of these changes. Whenever we make a payment through UPIs, we also get a voice alert for the transaction. This voice alert facility was present in paytm and phonepay but now Google is also ready to present its claim in this field. Now Google is also planning to compete with Paytm and PhonePe in the case of Soundbox.

As per the report, Google is also trialling Soundbox. According to a TechCrunch report, Google has started the pilot project of Soundbox in selected places in India. The company has named it Soundpod by Google Pay. It is being distributed in North India including New Delhi. It has been told in the report that Google Pay is giving this soundbox to the merchant without any extra charge. Along with this, a time frame is also being set to give this soundbox of Google Pay to another merchant. This device has built-in speaker, LCD screen and QR code.

The hardware has an inbuilt speaker which announces payment confirmation in different languages. Like its rivals’ soundboxes, Google’s device also includes a small LCD panel that shows payment amount, battery and network status, and manual controls. The business account with Soundbox has a merchant QR code associated with their Google Pay. Users can use any UPI-based app to make payments by scanning the code. Typically, these soundboxes do not support NFC payments as tap-and-pay is not a popular method of transaction in India. Also, many low-end smartphones do not have integrated NFC hardware. These SoundPods are being made by Amazon-backed ToneTag, according to TechCrunch.
