Speaking at the United Nations, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said that Hamas was ready to release the hostages on the condition that 6,000 Palestinians, who are currently in Israeli prisons, would also be released. “According to our discussions, Hamas is ready to release civilian prisoners,” he told a meeting of the 193-member General Assembly on the Middle East. On the other hand, the world should support the release of 6,000 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.
Amirabdollahian said Hamas informed Iran about the group’s position. According to Reuters report, Amirabdollahian also issued a warning in his speech, saying that if Israeli rockets do not stop attacking the Gaza Strip in response to the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, the US will not be spared from this fire. He said that I say clearly to the American politicians, who are now managing genocide in Palestine, that we do not welcome the expansion of the war in this region. But if the massacre continues in Gaza, they will not be able to escape this fire.
Amirabdollahian said Iran is ready to play its role in the important humanitarian effort along with Qatar and Turkey. He said that naturally, the release of 6,000 Palestinian prisoners is another need and responsibility of the global community. Earlier this week, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken told the United Nations that while he did not seek conflict with Iran, Washington would take swift and decisive action if Iran or its proxies attack US personnel anywhere.
