Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao said the border question does not represent the entirety of India-China relations. It should be appropriately placed and properly managed in bilateral relations. Mao further said that New Delhi and Beijing are in close communication through diplomatic and military channels. We hope that India will work in the same direction with China, handle bilateral relations from strategic heights and a long-term perspective, enhance mutual trust, stick to dialogue and cooperation, handle differences appropriately, and put bilateral relations on a strong and stable path. Will take it forward.

China on Thursday reacted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on normalizing relations between the two countries which have been tense due to the border dispute. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said at a media briefing that China had taken note of the prime minister’s comments. He said we believe that strong and stable China-India relations serve the common interests of both sides and are conducive to peace and development in the region and beyond.

PM Modi said in an interview to a foreign magazine that relations between the two countries should improve to restore peace and stability on the border. It is my belief that there is an urgent need to discuss the long-standing border situation so that differences can be left behind in our bilateral talks. Stable and peaceful relations between India and China are important not only for both countries but for the entire world. I hope and believe that through positive and constructive bilateral engagement at the diplomatic and military levels, we will be able to restore and maintain peace and stability on our borders.
