According to statistics, from 1959 to 2023, Tibet’s GDP increased from 174 million yuan to 239.267 billion yuan, with an average annual growth rate of 9.2 percent. Per capita GDP increased from 142 yuan at that time to 65,642 yuan so far.

It is reported that due to the country’s increased investment in Tibet, the construction of transportation, energy, water conservancy, etc. infrastructure in the autonomous region has progressed rapidly, related support conditions are being continuously improved, the pace of development in Tibet There has been a considerable increase. The general public budget revenue of the entire Tibet Autonomous Region in 2023 has reached 23.662 billion yuan, forming a new pattern of rapid development of modern industry and continuous improvement of self-development capabilities.

It is also reported that since the 18th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (held in November 2012), Tibet has historically eliminated absolute poverty and made a new leap in economic development. From 2012 to 2023, Tibet’s economic growth rate has topped the country for several consecutive years. Per capita disposable income of all residents grew at an average annual rate of 11.7 percent, which was 3 percent higher than the economic growth rate during the same period. In 2023, per capita GDP exceeded 65 thousand yuan, with a cumulative increase of more than 40 thousand yuan, which was the period with the largest growth.

According to the Bureau of Statistics of Tibet Autonomous Region, secondary industry has developed rapidly in Tibet, forming a rich industrial production system with Tibetan ethnic characteristics. At the same time, the scale of tertiary industry is increasing day by day, in the year 2023, the contribution of tertiary industry to economic growth will reach 57.6 percent, and it has become a new engine for Tibet’s economic development.

It also said that in the year 2023, many of Tibet’s main economic indicators were ahead of the country’s growth rate. The regional GDP growth rate was 4.3 percent higher than the national average, the growth rates of per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents were 1.4 and 1.7 percent higher than the national average respectively, the growth rate of real estate investment was 32.1 percent higher than the national average, consumer The growth rate of total retail sales of goods was 13.9 percent higher than the national average. Apart from these, the total trade import and export volume in Tibet increased by 138.3 percent.
