Hindu community in Pakistan protests against kidnapping, lawlessness

Islamabad: The Hindu community in the Kashmore district of Pakistan’s Sindh province is deeply troubled by the continuing lawlessness, kidnapping for ransom and the failure of the authorities to recover the victims. Frequent incidents of kidnappings targeting Hindu businessmen and community members in Kashmore have triggered a wave of protests across the province. Ashish, a Hindu trader in Kashmore, said that at least 40 people from the Hindu community have been abducted within the past two months. We are running to the police officials for action, but they seem to be ignorant of the matter. We, the Hindu community have been living in Kashmore district for decades. We do business here and we have good relations with everyone. But, since our people are being kidnapped for ransom, we have failed to find anyone who can listen to us and save our loved ones. Protests in Kashmore have also found support in Karachi, the main center of Sindh province, where hundreds of protesters from the Hindu community, civil society and others gathered in Clifton to register their strong protest against the ongoing kidnappings and failure of the provincial government.
