The Lahore High Court (LHC) issued a show-cause notice to Inspector General (IG) Islamabad Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan for contempt of court while hearing a plea to produce PTI chairman Pervez Elahi in court. Elahi was re-arrested by the Islamabad police near his residence, soon after which the LHC set him free with a restraining order against his possible arrest or preventive detention by any agency.

A team of Islamabad police, assisted by Lahore police, stopped a white SUV near the FCC underpass in which Elahi was going to his home with lawyer Sardar Latif Khosa and pulled them over in a white car without license plates. Visuals of the arrest had gone viral on social media and it was condemned by others including the Pakistan Bar Council. Islamabad Police had said that the former Chief Minister, who was later taken to Attock Jail, was detained under Section 3 of Maintenance of Public Order.

Following his re-arrest, Elahi approached the Islamabad High Court for release, while his wife, Kaisra Elahi, filed two petitions in the LHC, seeking a direction to produce Elahi in court and contempt proceedings against Punjab Police officials. A demand was made to issue instructions to the concerned authorities for the same. Grounds of “willful disobedience”. Hearing Kaisra’s plea to produce Elahi in court today, LHC judge Amjad Rafiq summoned IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar and Lahore Capital City Police Office (CCPO) Bilal Siddiqui Kamyana.
