His own people caught Muizzju’s lie, opened up his whole story on the claim of presence of thousands of Indian soldiers

The claim made by Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu regarding thousands of Indian military personnel was refuted by former Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, who also said that there are no foreign troops deployed in the country with guns. After 100 days, it’s clear. President Muizzu’s claims of thousands of Indian military personnel were another string of lies. The current administration’s inability to provide specific numbers speaks volumes. The newly elected president of the Maldivian Democratic Party said in a statement on social media platforms that there are no armed foreign troops deployed in the country.

He also stressed the importance of openness and the need for truth to prevail. He said that transparency matters and the truth should come out. The primary demand made by Muizzu’s party, particularly during the election campaign, was the withdrawal of Indian troops from the Maldives. There are currently around 70 Indian troops in the Maldives, along with two HAL Dhruv helicopters and two Dornier 228 maritime patrol aircraft. Muizzu, on the second day of his tenure, formally asked the Indian government to withdraw its military troops from Maldives.

Muizzu had insisted in December last year that an agreement to remove Indian military troops had been reached after discussions with the Indian administration. Additionally, the President of Maldives announced that diplomatic talks are in progress for the withdrawal of Indian troops. He said that as per the terms of the recent discussions, military personnel on one of the three aviation platforms will be removed by March 10, 2024, while military personnel on the other two platforms will be removed before May 10, 2024.
