Michael Kugelman, director of the South Asia Institute at the Wilson Center, says Mazari’s resignation from PTI is a big blow to the party. Other party leaders have resigned under pressure in recent times, but none more senior and visible than Majri. If Kugalman is to be believed, the party is being clamped down on at every level from power to the army.
Qureshi said will be with the party
On the other hand, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who was the Finance Minister in Imran’s government, has put an end to the speculations of leaving the party. Qureshi, who is the deputy chairman of PTI, has been re-arrested outside Adiala Jail soon after his release. Before being arrested, he said, ‘I am with the party and will always be with the party.’ The PTI, on the other hand, claims that its leader Musarrat Cheema was arrested again within hours of his release. The party has termed it as an example of ‘fascism’ of the government. The party says that this practice should be stopped immediately and the decisions of the court should be respected.
