Imran Khan withdraws Jail Bharo movement, decision after Election Commission’s order

Pakistan: Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party today suspended its Jail Bharo Tehreek (arrest arrest movement) following the Election Commission’s order to hold elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa within 90 days after the assembly was dissolved. Gave. The PTI dissolved the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assemblies on 14 and 18 January respectively in its attempt to create conditions for early general elections in the country.

The five-judge bench pronounced its verdict today

A five-member bench headed by Chief Justice Ata Bandial gave its verdict today, paving the way for elections in these two provinces. At present, the interim government is in power in these provinces. The court also ruled that President Arif Alvi’s order to hold elections on April 9 would be binding on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly but not on the Punjab Assembly. He said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly was dissolved by the Governor while the same did not happen in connection with the Punjab Assembly.

Imran Khan tweeted- We welcome the decision of the Supreme Court. It is the responsibility of the Supreme Court to keep the Constitution intact and it has done it bravely through its judgment today. It is an affirmation to the rule of law in Pakistan. We are suspending our Jail Bharo movement and we will go ahead with the election campaign in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

600 workers were arrested

Till now 600 workers of Imran who came from cricket to politics have been arrested. Khan, who has arrested 280 activists in the last two days, started Jail Bharo Tehreek from Lahore on February 22 alleging violation of fundamental rights, misuse of the constitution and economic crisis.
