Imran Khan’s marriage with Bushra Bibi was illegal, Mufti told the truth of marriage in the court

There has been a big disclosure about Bushra Bibi, wife of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan. The cleric who conducted the marriage of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan with Bushra Bibi said that the ceremony was not conducted according to Islamic Sharia law, The Express Tribune reported. The cleric said that Imran was married in 2018 during Bushra Bibi’s iddat period. The Iddat period (three months) is a waiting period that a Muslim woman must observe due to the death of her husband or the dissolution of the marriage.

Before marrying Imran Khan, Bushra was married to Khawar Menka and they got divorced in 2017. Lavi Mufti Sayeed said that she witnessed the nikah between Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi on January 1, 2018, after a woman claiming to be Bushra’s sister assured her that all Sharia requirements were met for her marriage. Saeed said that after marriage, both started living together in Islamabad.

However, she claims that Imran Khan approached her in February 2018 and requested her to remarry. According to Saeed, Imran Khan told him that at the time of the opening ceremony, Bushra’s iddat period had not been completed as she was divorced in November 2017. The cleric said that the former Pakistan PM and his wife planned their wedding despite being aware of the situation. He also alleged that Imran Khan had convinced him that he believed that by marrying Bushra he would become prime minister. Mufti Saeed disclosed in the court about the marriage of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and Bushra Bibi. The petition was filed by one Muhammad Haneef against the alleged ‘un-Islamic’ marriage of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
