The statement said that the incident is being presented as a fight between the Pakistani Army and the Punjab Police.
Videos showing Pakistan Army soldiers torturing policemen in Punjab province have sparked widespread outrage on social media. The clip shows Army officers attacking and beating policemen in Bahawalnagar, Punjab. In one clip, army personnel made uniformed policemen sit on the ground on their knees. The two tortured policemen were also seen pleading with the army personnel to spare them. In another clip, two young policemen were seen trying to avoid being caught by army personnel.
Talking about the incident, a senior police officer told news agency PTI that three civilians were illegally detained and Punjab Police personnel were demanding money for their release. Policemen also raided the residence of an army officer to arrest an associate of the trio. This enraged some army personnel and they raided the Madrasa police station of Bahawalnagar to free those three people. Policemen were tortured during that raid.
