Jaishankar stressed on dealing firmly with the situation inciting violence and ensuring the safety of Indian diplomats in Canada.
It was only a few days ago when India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar issued a warning to Canada for giving space to Khalistani elements. Jaishankar’s statement came after it emerged that Khalistani threat posters in Canada had the names of Indian diplomats. Jaishankar said that India had raised the issue of photographs of Indian diplomats in Khalistani posters with the Canadian authorities. Jaishankar stressed on dealing firmly with the situation inciting violence and ensuring the safety of Indian diplomats in Canada.
What action did Canada take?
Canada has provided additional security to Indian diplomats in view of threats from Khalistani terrorists. Canada’s federal security services have beefed up security at the residence of India’s High Commissioner in Ottawa following online threats linked to a pro-Khalistan ‘Kill India’ campaign. A senior Indian official described the latest threat posted online for 15 August to rallies in India’s missions in Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver as an “escalation” from the earlier campaign of 8 July. The security of all Indian missions in Canada has also been increased.
Let us tell you that Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, the head of Sikh for Justice, active in Canada and America, had threatened India by releasing a video a day earlier. India formally conveyed its concerns ahead of the latest threat to ‘Base Indian Missions’ from separatist group Sikhs for Justice or SFJ.
