India organizes special exhibition on millets at UN Headquarters

India has put up a special exhibition of millets at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to celebrate ‘International Millet Cereals 2023’. The exhibition, launched by India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations on Tuesday, focused on different types of millets grown in India, their nutritional value and health benefits. Along with this, calorie related information of the food grains displayed in the exhibition has been given. The exhibition was attended by more than a hundred delegates from UN member states and senior UN officials.

India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ruchira Kamboj in her brief statement explained why India is striving to make 2023 the International Year of Millets (IYM) and how millets can guide the collective march towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). There is an important solution. This was followed by the release of a video on IYM and a special address by Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohammed.

Arun Nagpal, co-founder and director, MRIDA Group, shares his experiences on his journey with millets from farm to table. This was followed by a special address by Earl Courtenay Rattray, the ‘Chef de Cabinet’ of the UN Secretary-General, after which the exhibition was officially launched. Snacks based on millets on the occasion of this exhibition were other attractions for the taste of the guests. Coarse grains were displayed. The United Nations was used as a platform to see, touch, taste and learn about millets. A media release said that the Coarse Cereals Exhibition will be held from 14-17 February 2023 at the United Nations General Assembly Delegates Entrance Exhibition Area.
