India ready to assist Bangladesh in defense modernization efforts: High Commissioner

India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma has said that India is ready to help Bangladesh with its defense modernization efforts. Verma identified defense industry cooperation with the neighboring country as an emerging area of ​​bilateral partnership. The Indian High Commission here organized a seminar on Indian defense equipment on Sunday to promote defense industry cooperation between India and Bangladesh.

According to a press release issued by the High Commission, Verma at the event identified defense industry cooperation between the two countries as an emerging area of ​​their defense partnership. Verma highlighted the achievements of the Indian defense industry in the last decade driven by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India, Make for the World” vision. The High Commissioner invited the Bangladesh Armed Forces to benefit from India’s cost-effective, high-quality defense equipment and technology and the proposed joint development and production.

He expressed Delhi’s willingness to partner with Dhaka in its defense modernization through the US$ 500 million Defense Line of Credit extended by the Government of India to the Government of Bangladesh. He urged the defense industry on both sides to take full advantage of this arrangement. Bangladesh Army’s Chief of General Staff (CGS) Lt Gen Ataul Hakim Sarwar Hasan attended the event and delivered the keynote address along with Verma.

The press release said Hassan praised India’s defense manufacturing capabilities and proposed cooperation between the two sides for a closer defense industry partnership. Several leading Indian defense manufacturers from the public and private sectors also participated in it. Representatives from Bangladesh Armed Forces, Paramilitary Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies also participated in the seminar.
