India Russia Friendship: India stands with its friend Russia even after the war, abstains from voting on Ukraine in UN

Voting termed historic
This voting held on Thursday is being termed as historic. Through this voting, all countries including America and UK condemned Russia’s attack on Ukraine. The General Assembly demanded that the Russian forces immediately evacuate Ukraine and go back. Along with this, an appeal has also been made for permanent and long-term peace in Ukraine. 141 members voted in favor of the resolution while 32 countries, including China and India, abstained. Pakistan and Iran have also remained absent from this voting.
dialogue is the only option
India’s Permanent Representative Ruchira Kamboj reiterated that India’s position is the same in the Russia and Ukraine wars. He has always maintained that the only way to end the war is through diplomacy and dialogue. In his words, ‘India is strongly committed to multilateralism and believes in the principles of the United Nations Charter. We always see dialogue and diplomacy as the only option.
He further said that India understands the intent of the resolution. At the same time, it has decided to stay away from it in view of the inherent limitations in proposing a permanent peace in Ukraine.
