Shahbaz Sharif is now the new Prime Minister of Pakistan. He has formed a coalition government in Pakistan. Many countries including China, America, Saudi Arabia have congratulated Sharif on becoming Prime Minister. Indian PM Narendra Modi has also congratulated Shahbaz Sharif. Shehbaz takes over the reins of Pakistan at a time when the country is facing threats on multiple fronts, especially a cash-strapped economy coupled with administrative crises. During his first term as Prime Minister after the ouster of cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan from power in 2022, inflation reached a high of 38 per cent with a record devaluation of the rupee currency, largely due to the IMF programme. Structural reforms had to be stabilised.
PM Modi congratulated Shehbaz Sharif on becoming the next Prime Minister of Pakistan
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Shehbaz Sharif on becoming the new Prime Minister of Pakistan. Shehbaz, the candidate of the six-party alliance led by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), was sworn in as the 24th Prime Minister of Pakistan by President Arif Alvi on Monday. PM Modi wrote on Instagram, “Congratulations to Shahbaz Sharif on taking oath as Prime Minister of Pakistan.” Shehbaz was sworn in in the presence of his elder brother Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and other PML-N workers. PPP’s Murad Ali Shah and Sarfaraz Bugti were also present. The PML-N supremo had entrusted him with the task of holding talks with other like-minded parties on the formation of a coalition government. Apart from the PPP, Shehbaz was supported by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM-P), Pakistan Muslim League (Q), Balochistan Awami Party, Pakistan Muslim League (Z), Istehkaam-e-Pakistan Party and the National Party.
Pakistan’s opposition leader Gauhar Khan praised India fiercely
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Gauhar Khan on Monday slammed the new Prime Minister of Pakistan. During her speech, Gauhar Khan, while enumerating the shortcomings of the Pakistan government, also praised India. Gauhar Khan accused Shehbaz Sharif that his family thinks about the country first and after coming to power, they increase government posts and then appoint their relatives to those posts. Gauhar Khan, leader of Imran Khan’s party PTI, has advised the new PM Shahbaz Sharif to learn from India to build and run a democratic system. India’s population in 1971 was 54 crores and today it is 140 crores. Today, despite the population of 140 crores, there are the same number of Lok Sabha seats in India as there were in 1971. The Indian government wants to save the money of its people and not waste it. The government of Pakistan should learn how to run governance from India.
PTI leader Gauhar Khan lashed out at Shehbaz Sharif
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Gauhar Khan on Monday said the party’s protest will be “constructive rather than destructive” and hold the government accountable for its actions. Speaking in the National Assembly, Gohar termed the election of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as a “sad day for democracy”. Gohar said “None of us had imagined that such a person would be elected, that the button of Pakistan’s nuclear power would be handed over to someone who does not have a public mandate and who has been in power for four decades, based on his personal A living document of profit.”
