Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, who is visiting China, visited Shanghai from 28 to 30 March. He said that Sri Lanka can take experience in urban planning from Shanghai. He also encouraged more Chinese enterprises to invest in Sri Lanka.
He said that Sri Lanka and China have a long history of friendship which is getting stronger with time. Investment projects of many Chinese enterprises in Sri Lanka have been completed or are being completed. We are confident of deepening the cooperation between the two countries. The pace of Chinese economic development is faster than that of many countries in the world, which is beneficial for the development of other economic communities in Asia.
Shanghai and Colombo are sister cities. Colombo Port City is an important cooperation project between the two countries. It has received China’s support from the beginning of planning. We hope that Shanghai and Colombo will have more exchanges in port construction. With this, Shanghai will be able to invest more in Colombo.
He also invited Chinese tourists. He said that Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is recovering. We are busy in preparing convenient tourism packages for Chinese tourists. He said that China has made world-renowned achievements in the past more than 70 years. Sri Lanka is willing to share the development opportunity with such a great country and will provide more good resources for Chinese investors.
