Dhaka. At least 14 people, including five members of a family, were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on Bangladesh’s Dhaka-Khulna highway on Tuesday. Police gave this information. The ‘Dhaka Tribune’ newspaper quoted police as saying that the accident took place in Faridpur when a bus going to Magura town in Khulna division collided with a truck going towards Dhaka. In this accident, 11 people died on the spot. Police said two people died on the way to the hospital and one died during treatment. The dead included the passengers, driver and assistant of the truck. There were 15 people including the driver on the truck.

‘Daily Star’ news portal in its news put the number of dead at 13 and said that the dead included seven women, three men and three children. According to the news of news portal ‘BDNews24’, five members of the same family are also among those who died. Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan Talukdar and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Murshid Alam had visited the accident site.

The news quoted Talukdar as saying that the government released an immediate amount of 20 thousand taka for the burial of the dead and the same amount was given for the treatment of the injured. He said that an assistance amount of Tk 5 lakh each would be given to the families of the deceased and Tk 3 lakh each would be given to the families of the injured.
