Country’s largest automaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) aims to double its SUV (Special Utility Vehicle) sales by the end of this year to become the market leader with 25 per cent share in the segment. Speaking to PTI, MSI Senior Executive Officer (Sales and Marketing) Shashank Srivastava said that the company now has a special focus on the SUV segment. Maruti now wants to capture the leadership position in the SUV segment as well, for which it has set an aggressive target. Srivastava said, “In the last financial year, we achieved about 13 percent market share with the sale of 2.02 lakh SUVs.
We intend to sell about five lakh SUVs in the current financial year. He said that a total of 19 lakh SUVs are expected to be sold in the financial year 2023-24. In this way Maruti intends to capture more than 25 percent of the total market share. SUVs have emerged as the fastest growing segment in the domestic passenger vehicle market. In 2018, the share of SUVs in the vehicle market was 24 percent but in 2022 it has increased to 43 percent. Apart from the Brezza and Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki’s SUV fleet will also get new products in the form of Franks and Jimny.
