The walkathon was organized by the ‘British Women in Sari Group’ on August 6, a day before National Handloom Day. Group President Dr. Deepti Jain told in a special conversation with Prabhat Khabar that this event was very special for us. On the occasion of this walkathon, we came in the eyes of the whole world. Walkathon will increase the pride of our country in a way. Saree is such a garment of ours, which we can wear anytime and anywhere. This apparel instills a sense of confidence in us. Along with this, it is also our endeavor to promote the handloom industry.
Group President Dr. Deepti Jain said that in today’s era the condition of the weavers is not very good, in order to save their art and strengthen them financially, we are also trying to bring their art to the international level. To be shown Along with this, it is our endeavor that today’s youth should maintain this identity of ours and adopt saree.
Dr. Deepti Jain told that modern Indian women are self-reliant and want to redefine their power dressing, for this she has chosen saree and proved that she can do everything by wearing saree. To prove and establish this, ‘British Women in Saree Group’ has been formed. Women who wear handloom sarees and take pride in representing their unique culture are a part of this group.
Dr. Deepti Jain, president of the London Walkathon Group, played an important role in organizing this event. He launched a campaign to include women in this event. The result was that hundreds of people showed interest in the program. It was stopped after more than 500 registrations were done, because due to security reasons, permission was not given to collect a lot of crowd on this road. Due to the efforts of Dr. Deepti Jain, on June 16, 2022, more than 1000 women participated in Berkshire. Although handloom sarees were not worn in that event, the London Walkathon has been organized inspired by this event.
Dr. Deepti Jain told that on August 6, 2023, history was created on the streets of London. More than 500 women of Indian origin came out on the main road of London wearing the pride of Indian clothes. Women participating in the walkathon were seen wearing sarees made of Jamdani from West Bengal, Ilkal from Karnataka, Paithani from Maharashtra, Bandhani from Rajasthan, Chanderi from Madhya Pradesh, Bomkai from Odisha, Patola from Gujarat, Muga silk from Assam and Bhagalpuri silk from Bihar . This had not happened till date in the history of London.
