After the inauguration of the new Parliament building, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi had tweeted a picture of the mural with the title ‘The resolution is clear – Akhand Bharat. This has intensified the protests in Nepal. Nepal’s former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai said in a statement that the map has the potential to further exacerbate the trust deficit that has already plagued bilateral relations between most of India’s closest neighbours. Pakistani Foreign Ministry has also opposed the map. We are shocked by the statements of some BJP leaders including a Union Minister linking with ‘Akhand Bharat’. Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said the unnecessary claim of ‘Akhand Bharat’ is a manifestation of a revisionist and expansionist mindset that seeks to subjugate the identity and culture of not only India’s neighboring countries but also its own religious minorities .

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi clarified that the issue of the graffiti was not raised by the Nepalese leader. So I don’t know whether the protest is still going on or not, he said. Certainly the Nepali side did not raise it. He also claimed that the fresco was not about a united India, but an extension of the ancient Mauryan Empire. Bagchi said, the fresco reflects the expansion of Ashoka’s empire and the idea of ​​responsible and people-oriented governance that he adopted and publicized.
