The airline has said in the instructions issued on Tuesday that women traveling alone will get the opportunity to change their seats even after reaching the flight. Such female passengers may be given window or aisle seats.
In the instructions issued by the company, it has been said that we keep the convenience and safety of our passengers paramount. That is why we have started providing the facility to choose gender-sensitive seat options.
In the circular issued by the company on October 3, it has been said that now the female passenger will be given the opportunity to choose her seat even after reaching the flight. This step is being taken to avoid any dispute between male and female passengers during the journey.
How will this facility be available?
Air India has said in the circular that for this, proper training will be given to cabin crew members and women traveling alone will have to request other passengers to get a window or aisle seat. If the seat of a woman traveling alone falls in the middle and there are seats for male passengers on either side, then such a woman passenger can be given a window or adjacent seat. For this purpose, the cabin crew will request male passengers to change their seats. If a woman is traveling with a small child, she can also be given the option to change seats.
Children will also get a chance.
Air India has said that if a child is traveling alone then he can be given the middle seat. Such a child will be given a middle seat instead of a window or aisle and even after reaching the flight, he will get a chance to change his seat. This step is being taken to avoid any kind of dispute between male and female passengers.
Why was such a decision taken?
Air India says that it has received hundreds of complaints where women traveling alone have faced inconvenience due to being in the middle seat. After this, the airline considered it gender sensitive and gave the option of changing the seat. However, this move may increase problems for the cabin crew. It will be a challenging task for them to request the passengers sitting on the sidelines to give up their seats for the lady passenger.
