Abuja, August 18 (Hindustan). A helicopter carrying soldiers who were attacked by bandits in Nigeria has crashed. In this, 25 including 21 Nigerian soldiers were killed.
According to the information, armed bandits attacked the soldiers in Niger Chukuba village near Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. A helicopter sent to rescue soldiers killed and injured in a bandit attack has crashed in Abuja. 25 people including 21 Nigerian soldiers lost their lives in the accident.
Confirming the incident, Nigerian military spokesman Major General Edward Buba said there were 14 soldiers and seven wounded soldiers on board the plane at the time of the crash, apart from two pilots and two crew members. The cause of the accident is under investigation. The officials are yet to reveal the details of the evacuation mission or any major disclosures about the accident. It is not yet known whether there is any survivor in the accident or not.
Earlier, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu said in a statement on Tuesday that these officers and soldiers were on duty during an evacuation mission. He sacrificed his life in his dedicated service towards the country.
The bodies of security personnel killed in the bandit attack were being retrieved before the helicopter crashed in Chukuba. It is also being claimed that the gunmen were carrying sophisticated weapons that could have brought down a helicopter. The chopper had taken off from Kaduna airfield for Minna but lost contact with the control towers of both Kaduna and Minna.
