Pyongyang, January 15 (HS). North Korea’s test of an intermediate-range solid-fuel ballistic missile with a hypersonic warhead has left many countries worried. North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said the launch, which took place on Sunday afternoon, was aimed at confirming the reliability of the missile’s solid-fuel engine and the dynamic flight capabilities of the hypersonic warhead. This test was successful.

According to KCNA, the test did not affect the security of any neighboring country and has nothing to do with the regional situation. The test is a part of the regular activities of defense science institutions to develop powerful weapon systems. South Korea made a big claim on this test on Monday. According to Japan Today report, South Korea has said that this missile is designed to attack remote American targets. With this, US military bases located in Guam and Japan can be targeted.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the North Korean missile flew about 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) before landing in the waters between the Korean Peninsula and Japan. According to the report, North Korea has been testing hypersonic weapons since 2021. They are designed to fly at speeds greater than Mach 5, or five times the speed of sound.

A North Korean delegation led by Foreign Minister Choe Sun Hui left Pyongyang on Sunday to visit Russia at the invitation of the Russian Foreign Minister, according to a KCNA report. Japan Today reports that the US and South Korean governments claim that North Korea is supplying Russia with artillery and missiles, among other weapons, for its invasion of Ukraine.
