Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said the Iran nuclear deal could be revived. In an exclusive interview with Firstpost, Kanani talks about the revival of India-Iran relations and the Iran nuclear deal. Kanani was asked whether the status quo of the nuclear deal between the US and Iran could still be restored. In response, a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that the Islamic Republic of Iran has so far remained committed to the framework of the nuclear deal known as the JCPOA. It was the US government that unilaterally withdrew from the accord.

However, he added that talks are still on through the threat of third parties. We still believe that the JCPOA can be revived and reinstated as a multilateral agreement. Kanani said economic and commercial cooperation between India and Iran is important and India and Iran share a two-way relationship. He said that we are cooperating with India in various fields. Our bilateral relations with India can expand to include the energy sector. Talking about India and Iran’s agreement for Rupee-Rial trade giving way to the US dollar, Kanani said that unfortunately the United States has recognized the dollar to put pressure on the countries. Under these circumstances, many countries are willing to expand other mechanisms, such as leveraging their national currencies. So, the cooperation between India and Iran also falls in this category.

Asked about Iran’s recent entry into the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the country’s expectations from the grouping, the Iranian Foreign Ministry official said that Iran’s membership in the SCO is a very important development. Iran has always been one of the important countries in the West Asia region. He further noted that some analysts refer to Iran’s full membership in the SCO as a turning point that enhances and promotes the SCO’s status at both the regional and international levels.
