Major progress was made in expanding the operation of freight trains as “passenger trains” on the China-Laos Railway. As of March 25, an international freight train on the Lanchang-Mekong Expressway of the China-Laos Railway has made 1,000 trips. Through this, 3 lakh 95 thousand tonnes of goods have been transported.
The successful operation of the international freight train on the Lanchang-Mekong Expressway is not only an important achievement of cooperation between the railway departments of China and Laos, but also an important symbol of the growing economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. The volume of freight traffic has been continuously increasing since the start of operations. This ensured transportation of products like fruits, vegetables, flowers and daily necessities.
Over the past two-plus years, fruits and vegetables including durian, mangosteen and longan from Thailand and Laos, and cabbage and pomegranate from China’s Yunnan province have been increasingly transported to China and abroad via the Lanchang-Mekong Express. Agricultural cooperation and trade exchanges were increased between China and countries like Laos and Thailand.
It should be noted that due to the effectiveness of RCEP, the volume of freight traffic on the China-Laos Railway is continuously increasing. Through trains like Lanchang-Mekong Express, etc., not only the transportation capacity was improved, but also the trade routes between China and ASEAN countries were expanded. There will be huge potential for further economic and trade cooperation between the two sides.
