When and how did the accident happen?
The Francis Scott Bridge in Baltimore collapsed on Tuesday morning after being hit by a large ship. Many vehicles were running on the bridge at the time of the incident. The video of bridge collapse is becoming increasingly viral on social media ‘X’. It can be clearly seen in the video that the ship hits a pillar of the ‘Francis Scott Key Bridge’, due to which the bridge collapsed and fell into the water. After the collision, the ship also caught fire and it is believed that it sank.
Relief and rescue operations continue
Kevin Cartwright, communications director of the Baltimore Fire Department, told the American news agency ‘Associated Press’ that this is an emergency. He said, our focus right now is on rescuing people and getting them out of the water. Cartwright said emergency personnel were searching for at least seven people who were believed to be in the river.
The bridge was opened in 1977
The bridge opened in 1977 and spans the Patapsco River, a vital thoroughfare and hub for shipping along the Port of Baltimore as well as the East Coast.
