The vessel will later be towed to its destination so it can carry on its regular fishing activities.

The Iranian-flagged FV AI-Kamber was intercepted by INS Sumedha on March 29, the Navy statement said. Later it was attached to the guided missile frigate INS Trishul. The Indian Navy said the pirates aboard the ship were forced to surrender and the Pakistani crew was rescued. After more than 12 hours of intense heavy tactical action as per SOP, the pirates aboard the hijacked FV were forced to surrender. The crew comprising 23 Pakistani nationals was rescued safely.

The Navy said that expert teams of the Indian Navy are currently conducting a thorough sanitization and seaworthiness check of the FV to move her to a safe area to resume normal fishing activities. The navy said it was engaged in an operation to rescue the ship which had been hijacked by nine armed pirates. The fishing vessel was approximately 90 nm south west of Socotra at the time of the incident.
