Senegal’s Constitutional Council declared Faye president-elect.

Dakar (Uttam Hindu News): Senegal The Constitutional Council of Brazil, while publishing the final results of the presidential election, has declared opposition leader Bassirou Diomay Faye as the new elected President of the country. According to the report of news agency AFP, Mr Faye got 54.28 percent of the votes in the first round, while former Prime Minister Amadou Ba Got 35.79 percent votes. Presidential elections were held on 24 March.

Faye is a former tax inspector who served as secretary general of the African Patriots of Senegal for Work, Ethics and Fraternity (PASTEF) party. In July 2023, the country’s authorities dissolved the party, accusing its leaders of subversive activities. Mr Faye replaced opposition leader Ousmane Sonko in the 2024 elections, who was unable to contest due to charges against him. Mr Faye, 44, is the fifth and youngest elected president in Senegal’s history. He will be sworn in on April 02.
