Pak army refused martial law

islamabad (The Hindu News): Ruling out any possibility of imposing martial law in the country in the wake of violent protests by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the military spokesperson has rubbished reports doing the rounds on social media that Some of the top army officers have resigned and defianceed the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir. Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary Sharif, Director General, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said: I want to state very clearly that General Asim Munir and the senior leadership of the Army under him wholeheartedly support democracy and will continue to do so. There is no question of martial law.
The DG said, neither there was any resignation nor there was any disobedience.
He said that despite internal disturbances and external conspiracies, the country’s armed forces were united, Dawn reported.
He said no army officer has resigned and no order of the COAS has been violated.
He said the army leadership believes in the continuity of democracy despite the current standoff between the government and the PTI.
There is no question of imposing martial law, reiterated Major General Chowdhary.
