Akbar banned cow slaughter and got the Vedas, Mahabharata and Ramayana translated. At the same time, there has been a big controversy regarding the religious policies of Aurangzeb. Many historians believe that Aurangzeb wanted to make India a ‘Dar-ul-Islam’ or a completely Islamic state. In Pakistan, Aurangzeb is considered to be an ideal Muslim leader because of his loyalty to Islam, military strength and Islamic morality prevalent in his state.
Allama Iqbal, a famous Pakistani politician, philosopher and staunch supporter of creating a separate Pakistan country, considered Aurangzeb a nationalist. Allama said, ‘Aurangzeb was the founder of Muslim nationalism in India.’ Maulana Abdul Ala Maududi, one of the influential politicians, has praised Aurangzeb because of his commitment to Islam. He said that due to the principles of Aurangzeb, the way for the political future of Pakistan was cleared. Not only this, in the textbooks of Pakistan, Akbar and not Aurangzeb has been told the reason for the decline of the Mughal Empire.

‘Aurangzeb the leader of Islam’
IH Qureshi, a historian from Pakistan, claims that Akbar incorporated non-Muslims into his Mughal empire, which led to its decline. Qureshi said that Akbar weakened Islam through his policies and then it could not be restored. Pakistani historians have particularly criticized Akbar’s policies towards the Rajputs. Another historian M Ikram Rabbani even alleges that Akbar’s secular policies led to differences between Hindus and Muslims. From this onwards, Pakistan and India became two separate countries.
