Jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has demanded the resignation of Pakistan’s Chief Election Commissioner and Chief Justice following allegations by a senior bureaucrat regarding ‘rigging’ in the elections. . Former Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha had on Saturday alleged that the candidates who were losing the elections in the city were made victorious. He claimed that 13 candidates from Rawalpindi were wrongly declared winners. His comments come at a time when PTI has launched nationwide protests against alleged rigging in the February 8 elections.

“I am taking responsibility for all these wrongdoings and I am telling you that the Chief Election Commissioner and the Chief Justice are also fully involved in this,” Chattha said, calling for “acceptance of responsibility” for manipulating the election results. After this Chattha resigned from the post. A spokesperson of Khan-led PTI demanded that Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja and Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa resign from their posts following the revelations by Rawalpindi Commissioner Chattha.

The spokesperson said Chattha has admitted that the victory of independent candidates who were leading by more than 70,000 votes was converted into defeat by using fake stamps. He emphasized that Chattha’s testimony supports PTI’s stand that people had voted for PTI-backed independent candidates in large numbers.
