Pakistan elections: High level committee formed to investigate allegations of rigging – Dainik Savera Times

Former Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha on Saturday alleged that candidates who were losing elections in the city were made victorious. He claimed that 13 candidates were forcefully declared winners in Rawalpindi. His statement came at a time when Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party on February 8.
Nationwide protests have been started against rigging in the general elections and snatching of the mandate given to the party. In a news published in the newspaper ‘Dawn’, the former Commissioner of Rawalpindi said, “I take full responsibility for this mess and am telling that the Chief Election Commissioner and the Chief Justice are fully involved in it.”
Chattha had resigned from the post, taking “responsibility” for manipulating the election results. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has strongly rejected the allegations made by Chattha against the Chief Election Commissioner. The ECP held an emergency meeting to discuss the allegations and formed a high-level committee to investigate the allegations.
Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raza attended the meeting through video conference. On the other hand, newly appointed Rawalpindi Commissioner Saif Anwar Jappa rejected all the allegations made by the former Commissioner regarding irregularities in the general elections. He clarified that the role of the commissioner in the elections was only for coordination.
