Pakistan Supreme Court judge facing corruption charges resigns

A judge of Pakistan’s Supreme Court facing corruption charges resigned on Wednesday. A day before this, the disciplinary committee of the apex court had refused to stay the proceedings against him.
In a letter to Pakistan President Dr. Arif Alvi, Justice Syed Mazhar Ali Akbar tendered his resignation and said that he could not continue in his post amid the allegations and the treatment meted out to him.
He said, it is an honor to be appointed and serve as a judge first of the Lahore High Court and then of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. It is not possible for me to continue to serve as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. I am resigning from the post of Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan today.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court had rejected Justice Naqvi’s request to stay the proceedings against him in the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) over alleged misconduct.
