Islamabad: The party of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan announced the cancellation of its much-publicized rally here on Saturday, citing religious reasons. The rally was to demand the release of party founder Imran Khan, who has been in jail since August last year after being convicted in various cases.

According to Geo News news, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gauhar Ali Khan on Wednesday informed his party’s supporters that the decision has been taken due to ‘Lailat-ul-Qadr’. The Muslim community considers the night of ‘Lailat-ul-Qadr’ in the month of Ramzan to be very important and stays awake the whole night in prayer.

He also requested the supporters to pray for the release and safety of all the party workers and leaders including Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi. Last month, PTI had announced a massive rally at the Parade Ground to ensure the release of 71-year-old Khan. The Islamabad High Court had also directed authorities to allow the party to hold a public meeting in the federal capital.
