Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari discussed US support for cash-strapped Pakistan’s economic recovery and shared regional concerns, including Afghanistan, in a phone call with Foreign Minister Antony Blinken. The Foreign Office said here that the two leaders discussed a wide range of issues on Monday and agreed to continue working together to strengthen ties and promote peace and development.
In a tweet, Blinken said the US supports a productive, democratic and prosperous partnership with Pakistan” and that he exchanged views with Bilawal on the country’s economic recovery and supporting our shared regional concerns, including Afghanistan. Reiterating America’s commitment to the people of Pakistan, the Foreign Office said, Blinken said that “Pakistan’s economic development is one of the United States’ top priorities.
Pakistan is facing increasing incidents of terrorism, with local officials blaming Kabul for harboring terrorists – especially the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The secretary noted that the Pakistani people have suffered greatly from terrorist attacks and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to continuing to partner with Pakistan on combating terrorism.
