World Meteorological Day is also known as “International Meteorological Day”. It is the anniversary of the founding of the World Meteorological Organization, held every year on 23 March. Its headquarters is in Geneva, Switzerland. Currently there are 187 national members and 6 regional members.
China is one of the early founding and signatory countries of the World Meteorological Organization. As an international cooperation platform for meteorological and hydrological departments of various countries, the World Meteorological Organization mainly works in the three areas of weather, climate and water. In addition to meteorological observations and research, the World Meteorological Organization implements various projects around the world. Which includes agricultural production, post-disaster reconstruction, water resources development and drought combating.
Global climate change has significantly increased natural disasters caused by extreme weather around the world, causing huge loss of life and property. Through comprehensive global observations, we can gain important information about weather, climate, and water. Although mastering this information cannot prevent the occurrence of natural disasters, it can provide early warning of disasters, and reduce the impact of disasters.
