Many issues are said to be discussed in the bilateral talks between PM Modi and the Amir. But the recent release of Indian citizens has added a positive dimension to relations between the two countries.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held bilateral talks with the Emir of Qatar, the first between the two leaders following the release of eight Indian Navy veterans detained in the Gulf country for several months. Many issues are said to be discussed in the bilateral talks between PM Modi and the Amir. But the recent release of Indian citizens has added a positive dimension to relations between the two countries. Eight former soldiers employed by Dahra Global were arrested last year on charges related to alleged espionage activities. A Qatari court sentenced the individuals to death on August 30.
It is a huge diplomatic victory for India to save its former marines from death sentence in another country and bring them back to their country. The one who will ensure this is none other than the Prime Minister of India, Modi. Only the rich people there had the ability to change the death sentence of Indian ex-marines found in Qatar. Therefore, a strategy was made for a direct meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Emir of Qatar. The talks between the two leaders took place on December 1, 2023, on the sidelines of the Climate Change Summit in Dubai. In the Energy Week meeting with 17 countries, India signed a gas deal worth $78 billion with Qatar. Under this agreement, India will buy liquefied natural gas from Qatar till the year 2048.
